The SATURDAY IMPROV

Improv, THE SIX QUESTIONS - w. Rich Talarico

Improvisers. Did you ever come off stage and say:

“Great scene, who were we?”

Or, “Great scene, where were we?”

WHERE? WHO? WHAT? HOW? WHY? WHEN? Crucial questions in storytelling. Often one ore more of these important questions can be left unaddressed in an improv performance. “SIX QUESTIONS" is a class that will give students simple, useful tools that will enrich their long-form improv lives. Rich has led this workshop in LA (at UCB and iO) and at improv festivals and theaters around the US and Canada. Learn how Improvisers play WHERE (object work) WHO (point of view / character) WHAT (games / playable dynamics of scene) HOW & WHY (the gift givers) and WHEN (dealing with time, linear and shattered narrative, etc.)

“Rich Talarico is one of the all time great Caucasian Improvisers.”

— Tina Fey

“Rich is the embodiment of good improv: positive, giving, and genuine.”

— Colin Thornton - Co-Founder, Improv Cincinnati

“Rich’s workshop is considered a ‘must take’ at any festival he attends.”

— Chris Moody - Producer, Detroit Improv Festival

“Rich shows you how small gifts build to deep, wonderful characters and scenes."

— Cean Okada, Improv Student

"Rich's class left me with many tools to instantly create stronger scenes. The surprising thing is how simple these ideas are.”

— Steve Halasz, Improv Student

SUNDAY - ONE DAY WRITING CLASS - THE WRITERS’ ROOM CRASH COURSE

COMEDY WRITING FOR TV, STAGE & FILM - w. Rich Talarico

Rich shares insights and techniques from his 20+ years experience in late night TV (SNL, MADtv, Key & Peele, The Tonight Show) and from having written five resident company shows for Second City in Chicago. This one day workshop will teach students how to write jokes, blackouts, how to brainstorm and pitch their ideas and how to outline a scene. The group will also learn how to support others’ ideas a key writers’ room skill.

"Rich knows how to write sketches -- that much is obvious. But it was clear that he loves helping people get better too. . . I have never had a sketch class that helps people so much with how to think about comedy. Don't wait to find a better sketch class. It might not come along."

— Tim Marks, The KC Improv Company and Co-Founder of Fountain City Sketch Company

"I seriously don't think I've had the chance to absorb that much good content in a small amount of time ever... even in college!"

— Jessica Christopher, Writing Student
